Rolleston, New Zealand

Reference: 6929738

  • Lead video, photography and digital storytelling for one of New Zealand's fastest-growing districts.
  • Create audience-focused content across social media, websites, EDMs and digital advertising.
  • Competitive salary + life insurance + flexible working

Join us at a pivotal moment for local government

New Zealand's local government sector is experiencing significant change, creating exciting opportunities to be part of something bigger than business as usual.

About the role

We're looking for a creative digital content specialist to produce high-quality, audience-focused content across Council's owned, earned and paid channels.

You'll bring Council's work to life through video, photography and digital storytelling, turning briefs into content that builds awareness of our services, drives participation in engagement and supports behaviour change across the district.

You'll work in close partnership with the Digital Channels Advisor, combining strong content with effective channels so the right message reaches the right audience.

This is a planning-led role as much as a production one. You'll shape the content strategy behind the work, plan and prioritise activity across channels, and report on how content is performing so decisions are grounded in evidence.

Key areas of focus include:

  • Creating high-quality digital content for social media, websites, EDMs, digital advertising and engagement platforms.
  • Leading the development and continuous improvement of Council's video and photography assets.
  • Maintaining and growing a well-organised digital asset library.
  • Applying content marketing best practice to grow subscribers, followers and digital engagement.
  • Optimising content for each platform and finding opportunities to improve reach and audience retention.
  • Working with the Digital Channels Advisor so content is informed by analytics, insights and audience behaviour.
  • Collaborating with Advisors and Graphic Designers to deliver integrated content for campaigns and projects.
  • Guiding the wider team on best practice for video, photography and visual storytelling.

About You

You'll be a skilled digital content creator who knows what makes people stop, watch and act, and who cares about content being accessible, inclusive and on brand.

You'll bring:

  • Strong experience in digital content creation, scripting, video production or multimedia storytelling.
  • Proven experience producing content for social media, websites, EDMs and digital advertising.
  • Experience applying content marketing principles to grow audiences and engagement.
  • Strong writing and editing skills for digital channels, with the ability to tailor content to different platforms and audiences.
  • A good understanding of how content, channels, audience behaviour and digital performance work together.
  • Experience developing content strategies, plans and calendars, and prioritising activity against organisational objectives.
  • Confidence reporting on digital performance, translating data into clear insights and recommendations for non-technical audiences.
  • A collaborative approach, and confidence working alongside specialists in adjacent disciplines.

Experience in local government or the public sector would be advantageous, as would skills in animation or motion graphics, experience with digital asset management systems, and knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and culturally responsive practice.

What we can offer:

  • Great work-life balance with flexibility
  • Career coaching and development
  • Life insurance
  • Wellbeing and volunteer leave
  • Three additional paid leave days each year
  • Two weeks paid Partners Leave
  • Sick leave from day one
  • Continued KiwiSaver contributions during savings suspension
  • Discounts with local and national businesses
