Team Leader Residential Inspections

We are looking for a Team Leader to provide day-to-day leadership to the Residential Inspections team in a full time permanent role.

About the role

Our Building team plays a vital role in supporting the district's growth by delivering high-quality services through customer engagement whilst completing both building consent authority and territorial authority functions. We work with our community to promote understanding, empathy, and a culture of safety and compliance.

You will be responsible for leading the delivery of Residential building services to the community by:

  • Leading the day-to-day coordination of undertaking the majority of building act functions that council is responsible for, including building consent inspection and certification ensuring workflows are efficient, effective and applied consistently following best practice.
  • Providing leadership to the residential inspection team and wider team to support their development and contribution.
  • Providing specialist advice to internal and external customers.

About you

This role is ideal for someone with a proven track record in leading others, solving problems, and driving continuous improvement. While technical expertise is valuable, your strength in people leadership is what matters most.

You bring a strategic mindset, strong communication skills, and a commitment to delivering high-quality services.

  • Experience (2+ years) in people management
  • Understanding of the Building Act, the Building Consent process, Building Regulations, the New Zealand Building Code, and the ability to convey this to customers
  • Willingness to confidently make appropriate decisions and take responsibility for them. Awareness of limitations of knowledge, and willingness to seek appropriate assistance when necessary
  • Strong understanding of digital ways of working, with experience of using technology to achieve effective outcomes and driving organisational innovation and change, high level of digital literacy
  • Experience (5+ years) in a BCA inspecting and/or processing environment
  • Experience working in a local/central government environment
