Heritage, Collections and Content Lead

Leadership opportunity within Selwyn District Libraries

We have an opportunity for someone to join us to cover a period of parental leave who until the end of July 2026. We are seeking an experienced professional from the GLAM (Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museum) sector, specifically within Libraries. About the role

This is a varied role leading a team to successfully deliver on heritage resources and services; Selwyn Libraries website, library physical, digital and subscription collection resources and services. This includes ensuring our content online is current, accessible and well organised. Due to the volume of work across our Libraries in Selwyn demonstrated experience from Libraries will be advantageous. Additional to this, proven strengths in; planning, procurement, contract management, financial management, reporting while managing strong relationships with suppliers.

Another key part to this role is managing the development of Kā Kōrero o Waikirikiri Selwyn Stories and the ongoing relationship with strategic partners; Ngai Tahu Archives, Archives NZ, Christchurch City Libraries, Lincoln and Canterbury Universities and Canterbury Museum. For this reason, you will need to demonstrate a good understanding and capability to successfully engage in Māori cultural settings.

Skills and experience

To be successful in this role our ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in the following areas;

  • Working in a GLAM sector (Galleries, Libraries, Museums, Archives) institution, especially Libraries.
  • Effective planning, procurement, distribution and monitoring of library physical and digital collections
  • Financial management, budgeting and reporting
  • Strong relationship management with local bodies, communities and suppliers
  • Ability to respectfully engage in a Māori cultural setting
  • Strength in successfully leading a team to meet set objectives
  • An appropriate qualification in; Museum Heritage, Arts, Library

Te Ara Ātea is the manawa of Rolleston's town centre

A place of discovery, community gathering and sharing knowledge.
