About the role:

This is a Fixed Term role for six months to cover Parental leave.

Selwyn District Council is looking for a proactive and community-minded Reserves Officer to help connect people with our beautiful parks and open spaces.

As the Reserves Officer, you'll be the friendly face and key contact for public, community groups, sports clubs, schools, and volunteers who use or care for Selwyn's public open spaces. Your role is all about building strong relationships, supporting community initiatives, and ensuring our parks are welcoming, safe, and well-used.

This is a hands-on, people-focused role where no two days are the same. You help bring Selwyn's green spaces to life.

The role will also:

• Provide support for the community and user groups
• Coordinating events and working bees to gathering feedback and supporting small-scale projects
• Promote awareness of available reserve facilities and encourage inclusive use of Council-managed open spaces.
• Help communicate Council plans, works, and updates to park users and community stakeholders.
• Provide input on service requests, maintenance needs, and customer issues related to reserves

About you:

You will be experienced in community engagement with knowledge of parks and reserves operations or community development in a local government setting. You will be a natural problem solver who have strong interpersonal and intuitive communication skills.

You will also be:

• At least 3 years' experience in a community-facing parks-related role
• A team player who works collaboratively and is happy to support different areas in the team.
• A passion for community development and the outdoors.
• Strong organisational skills and a proactive attitude.
• Responsive and reliable and have the skills and know how to "follow through"
• Comfortable speaking with a wide range of people and writing simple, clear correspondence
