Head of Capital Works

About the role:

The Head of Capital Works will possess a strong background in project and programme management methodologies, as well as expertise in stakeholder engagement, including collaboration with Iwi. The Head of Capital Works will have proven experience in the infrastructure and/or property sectors and strong skills in Financial Management, Commercial Management, Programme Management, Quality Management, Coaching & Mentoring, Health & Safety, Communication, Procurement and Risk Management

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead the Capital Works team to deliver capital works projects across the Infrastructure and Property Group; Ensure that risks to delivery are identified early, reported on and appropriately managed
  • Undertake comprehensive financial management of capital projects and packages; Coordinate with other planning and budget development processes for the Long-Term Plan, Annual Plan and 30-year Infrastructure Strategy for capital works.
  • Provide exemplary leadership, supporting the team through setting clear and consistent standards; developing and empowering others; building commitment and trust with your people; addressing performance related issues; managing conflict and building effective teams.
  • Instil sound project management practices across the team; Foster a respectful culture that delivers performance, productivity, openness and co-operation
  • Proactively engage with Council, Councilors and community with productive and positive relationships across the organistation.

About you:

Our ideal candidate will be a Project Management Professional (PMP) with a proven track record in commercial management. You will have strong business acumen and be an exceptional people leader.

You will also have:

  • ​Significant experience (15+ years) in programme management and capital delivery.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering
  • Be a proactive leader with a strong background in coaching and developing teams' knowledge of Local Government and a knack for collaboration.
  • Have a strategic mindset combined with the ability to provide actionable insights to our leadership team.
  • Be someone who thrives in a dynamic environment and is passionate about driving positive change.
  • Excellent skills in commercial management and reporting
