Communications Advisor - Marketing

Selwyn District Council has an outstanding opportunity for an intermediate-level Marketing Communications Advisor with ideas, energy and creativity.

In this newly-created role you'll work closely with a range of Council departments and facilities to understand their marketing communications needs, and prepare and deliver marketing plans and campaigns that support business goals.

You will be involved in supporting key facilities like our award-winning Selwyn Aquatic Centre, recreation centres and the Selwyn Libraries network, along with a growing events programme.

You'll also use your social marketing skills to design innovative awareness and education campaigns in support of community and environmental initiatives.

You will be equally at home in the traditional and digital media worlds, and help us make the most of new technologies to connect with our diverse community.

As part of a small but busy communications team you will contribute to communications projects across all Council services, and provide content for internal and external communications activities.

The successful candidate will have a relevant tertiary communications or related qualification as well as attributes including:

  • Proven experience in developing effective marketing and communication plans for services
  • A track record of creativity and innovation in marketing campaigns
  • Experience in the use of social media and digital/online channels as part of a marketing mix
  • Ability to build strong internal and external relationships
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience in local government or public sector is desirable
