Communications Advisor - Engagement

Reference: 3338798

Selwyn District Council has an outstanding opportunity for an intermediate-level Communications Advisor with experience and enthusiasm for community and stakeholder engagement.

Selwyn is New Zealand's fastest-growing district, with a rapidly-expanding economy. Our Council is responding to this growth with significant investment in services, facilities and infrastructure.

We understand the importance of engaging with our communities along the way - hearing their views, engaging in ongoing conversations and helping people participate in the decisions that affect them - that's where you come in.

In this brand new role you'll liaise with Council departments to understand their communications needs, and prepare plans and campaigns to deliver innovative communication and consultation. You'll bring fresh ideas and inspiration for new ways to engage with residents and stakeholders, including harnessing the power of digital and social media.

You will be involved in critical planning projects like our District Plan Review, and help to shape engagement and consultation on projects ranging from Long-Term Plans to the development of local community facilities.

You will also have an understanding of research practices and be able to help departments get the best out of customer and social research.

As part of a small but busy communications team you will contribute to communications projects across all Council services, and provide content for internal and external communications activities.

The successful candidate will have a relevant tertiary communications or related qualification as well as attributes including:

  • Proven experience in developing effective communication plans
  • A track record of creativity and innovation in community and stakeholder engagement
  • Demonstrated experience in corporate communications across traditional and digital media
  • Ability to build strong internal and external relationships
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience in local government or public sector is desirable

If this sounds like you, and you want to be part of Selwyn's exciting future then we want to hear from you!
